Southeast Asian composers Kee Yong Chong and Tony Prabowo have forged musical styles through synthesizing Western avant-garde composition and their indigenous musical traditions. The concert features homages to J.S. Bach - Chong's The thousand ripples of a lonely bell for solo viola and Prabowo's Music for Multiple Violas B-A-C-H 2004 for solo viola and prerecorded tape, coupled with selections from Bach's Musical Offering and Art of Fugue. Also included: Prabowo's Ke Erse and The Funeral Pyre, for viola and alto saxophone; American premieres of Chong's Temple bell still ringing in my heart for solo viola and Metamorphosis VI< for two instruments and CD.
Acclaimed by the New York Times for her "virtuoso flair," violist Stephanie Griffin has maintained an intense international artistic collaboration with Mr. Prabowo, with performs regularly as a soloist and with leading New York ensembles. Saxophonist Chris Mannigan performs notated and improvised music internationally and has recorded for Arabesque, SUR, and betweenthelines records.
